After much debate, I finally made the leap and bought the Ultra 2. Was it worth it? Here’s an honest breakdown of my experience, from the reasons I bought it to the pros and cons I’ve noticed since.

Why I Bought the Apple Watch Ultra 2

My primary reason for purchasing the Ultra 2 was its ability to track heart rate zones. This feature is essential for ensuring I’m training at the right intensity, whether it’s a steady run or a tough interval session. Staying in the right heart rate zone can help prevent burnout and maximize results, and I needed a device that delivered accurate, real-time data.

Additionally, the larger screen on the Ultra 2 promised improved visibility during workouts—a significant advantage when running outdoors in varying light conditions. Did I absolutely need the bigger screen? Probably not, but I figured, why not? Go big or go home!

The Cons of the Apple Watch Ultra 2

    At $799 USD which equals out to $1,120 CAD currently, making the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is a serious investment. If you’re on a budget, the Apple Watch Series 9 might give you most of the features you need at a fraction of the cost.
  2. Overkill for Casual Users
    If you’re not training regularly or don’t need all the rugged features, the Ultra 2 might feel like overkill. The smaller Apple Watches, like the SE or Series 9, still offer excellent tracking and functionality for everyday users.
  3. Size and Weight
    While I love the larger screen, the Ultra 2 is noticeably bulkier than smaller models. For everyday wear, the smaller Apple Watches might feel more comfortable.

Final Thoughts

In hindsight, I might have been just as happy with the smaller, less expensive models for day-to-day use. However, for someone like me who prioritizes fitness tracking, the larger screen and advanced features have made a noticeable difference.

If your main goal is improving your training efficiency, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is a fantastic tool. Its heart rate zone tracking and wide display truly stand out. But if price is a concern, the Series 9 or SE could be more practical alternatives.
