The 2024 WNBA season has been one of the most anticipated and exciting in recent memory. As a former player and longtime fan of the league myself, I can confidently say this season did not disappoint. With a wave of rising stars and unforgettable performances, 2024 has truly been a landmark year for women's basketball. From Caitlin Clark's dazzling play to A'ja Wilson's dominance, the season has injected new blood and energy into the league that it needed. We've seen the fresh faces of the rookies and the continued brilliance of the veterans, all coming together to elevate the WNBA’s place in the spotlight—and yes, even surprise the blogs and he numbers speak for themselves.
The league’s growth this season on the court and off was undeniable. The league saw an significant rise in viewership, with the Finals averaging 1.5 million viewers per game—an increase of nearly 20% from the previous year. This surge in popularity highlights a growing fanbase and a broader, national interest in women’s sports.
What’s Next?
This is an exciting time for the WNBA. I’ll admit, I had fallen off watching over the years, but this season reignited that spark and reminded me of the love I have for the league and the art and show of real fundamental basketball. With the addition of a team in Toronto, I can not wait. I believe this move will take another major step forward in its global growth of the game and, frankly, it's about time the league gets the recognition it deserves.
Looking Ahead
As the season wrapped up, it’s clear that the WNBA is headed in the right direction. The league’s expansion, increasing viewership, and influx of young talent like JuJu in college, all point to a future that is not only bright, but also poised to redefine women’s professional basketball. Exciting days lie ahead for the WNBA, and I’m hopeful that the momentum built this season continues to light the way forward.
